We are travelling round Europe for a few months and will be posting information about our progress here. We set off very early in the morning on 17th May 2012, (Eurotunnel at silly o'clock) and went to Calais, and "turned right !"  We have seen the Normandy Beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry, and the Alpine Meadows of Switzerland/Italy/Austria in flower. Follow our progress by checking out this website.

Check out this website:  www.ourtrip.co.uk.  Jason and Julie are a couple we met in Hamburg, and they keep their site updated daily (unlike us) so you can follow their adventures. There are also links to other websites for people having similar adventures, so we know we are not the only mad ones.

Lyon

Had a long driving day - 213 miles on minor roads, scenery changing all the way. Started with flat arable farmland and straight roads, and ended up on wooded hillly roads, occasional hairpins for the first time.  After the Sat nav sent us up the wrong end of the village, up a road which...

Orléans

30/05/2012 20:00
After leaving Chartres we had a day driving to reach the Orléans area. So, the city of Joan of Arc. I think the whole city trades on Joan, Maid of Orléans. As a tourist coming into the city, every shop, space, lamp post and cobbled street tells the story of Joan. You can have your picture taken...

Chartres

Chartres is twinned with Chichester - but other than them both having cathedrals, and they both start with the letter C, they don't have a lot in common. Chartres is on top of a hill and it feels like climbing a cliff face to get there. The cathedral, although looking impressive from the outside,...

Bayeux

27/05/2012 20:18
Well, what can we say? The tapestry is amazing, but it took while to find it. The sat nav was determined to send us down a tiny cul de sac, then when we eventually parked, the signs round the town were the worst we had ever seen.  However, it was worth it. 70 metres of vivid depictions -it...

Normandy

27/05/2012 20:05
We have visited several D Day museums in Normandy. All are very interesting, and the graveyards certainly give you food for thought.  Found an internet cafe in Caen where you can use the computer for free, but the French keyboard is not quite QWERTY, so that slowed things down a tad....

On the road

27/05/2012 19:53
Been on the road for ten days now. Crossed channel at 01.23 and it couldn't have been easier except it was really dark in Calais and we couldn't find a convenient stop.  Ended up in a village square at 4am, but left by 7.30 before anyone could give us a parking ticket.  A couple of...

Travel Insurance

04/05/2012 18:16
If you're going travelling and want to get travel insurance to cover more than 6 months, and you are old, like us, my advice is, don't even try ! After looking everywhere, (and failing miserably,)  we finally managed to get some insurance to cover us up to 17 October, so we have...

The motorhome

21/04/2012 16:10
See our photogallery for some pics of the motorhome.  It looks tidy at the moment, but anybody's guess as to how long that will last!

Moving day

09/04/2012 14:48
We moved on 12 April to Staffordshire to stay with relatives for about 4 weeks before setting off on our trip. During this time we are making the final arrangements ready for the trip, including buying Europe-compatible gas for cooking, heating, hot water and...
