We are travelling round Europe for a few months and will be posting information about our progress here. We set off very early in the morning on 17th May 2012, (Eurotunnel at silly o'clock) and went to Calais, and "turned right !"  We have seen the Normandy Beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry, and the Alpine Meadows of Switzerland/Italy/Austria in flower. Follow our progress by checking out this website.

Check out this website:  www.ourtrip.co.uk.  Jason and Julie are a couple we met in Hamburg, and they keep their site updated daily (unlike us) so you can follow their adventures. There are also links to other websites for people having similar adventures, so we know we are not the only mad ones.

Liechtenstein - Austria - Germany.

Drove into Vaduz, and found a slightly dodgy-almost too short- parking space, but at least it was free for the first hour (unheard of !). Spent a couple of hours wandering round the town. Lots of sculptures on the main street, and pavement art depicting postage stamps. Stamps seem to be a big...

Swiss dip into Italy, and Liechtenstein.

Found European Diocesan Church of St Edward the confessor in Lugano: fantastic welcome from everyone, and I think they are always glad to see a new face.  I even got to play the organ after the sevice. Tea and cake in Casa Benson (an ex- pension attached to the church. )Drove from there...

Schwarzsee to Thun.

20/06/2012 17:11
Although the weather was still not perfect for walking, we decided to go for it anyway, and headed up to Riggisalp, on a well marked path.  Still raining, so sheltered in a concrete igloo in a children`s play area. Although the weather was not the best, the walk and the scenery were...

Cheesy stuff.

20/06/2012 16:59
Decided to visit the Gruyere dairy which is actually in Pringy, the next village. Free sample of cheese, and audio guide, very good. Saw cheese being made, and mechanical robotic machine turning the cheeses in the cellar. Each cheese is turned every day for the first few days - no wonder they...

Switzerland

20/06/2012 16:36
Finally got to Switzerland - but border posts both French and Swiss appeared to be totally deserted.  Decided to head for the grand St Bernard Pass, intending to look at the museum there. This involved ascending and descending the Col de la Forclaz, and then ascending to the col of St...

Mont Blanc

11/06/2012 12:05
Drove up another so called A road, took us up yet another gorge, eventually arriving at Le Tour, just past Chamonix: a small ski town at the head of the valley - the road literally runs out. Parked in the village car park which was on something of a slope. After trying several different ways, we...

St Jean de Maurienne and Ugine.

11/06/2012 11:42
Had a couple of lazy days catching up with admin and laundry etc. This whole area seems to be the cycling centre of France. Everywhere is getting ready for the Tour de France which passes through on Friday 13th July. We have seen cyclists every day since we have been in the Alps, going up and...

Grenoble to the High French Alps

05/06/2012 11:05
Woke up after our first rain, and decided to have an easier day, so kept to a main D road (equivalent to A road) but here, even this is far from what you would recognise as a trunk road. The further up the valley we got, the narrower it became, with very little in the way of barriers at the edge,...

Vercors to Grenoble.

05/06/2012 10:54
We had hoped to drive through the Grand Goulets (originally carved as little more than a mule track in the mountainside along the gorge) on our way to Grenoble. However; the old tunnel has been replaced by a modern one, but the remainder of the road is still very narrow and  winding....

Apt then Die, and Vercors.

05/06/2012 10:44
Spent a couple of days with my sister in Apt, and visited Gordes and Rousillon, two typical towns of the Luberon Vally, with hilltop settlements. Moved on to Die: how can you NOT visit a place called Die !   East of Apt, it`s really pretty - starting to get into low Alpine...
